Marriage Ceremony Structure
2009

Prelude Music

Who will play and what music do you want?
I can help you with possibilities.  If it is an outdoor ceremony, I suggest live music; this way you don’t need amplifiers, etc.
You may choose to have no music at all.

Bridal Entrance

Who is involved?
Groom-Best Man- Groomsman
Mother and Father of Groom
Mother and Father of the Bride
Bridesmaids
Bride

Introduction and welcome to guests

The Giving Away (Optional)

Both parents, just father, someone else, or no one?

Personal History

I will give you a questionnaire to fill in so we can compile a story of your life together so far. From this, you can write a personal history to add into the introduction of ceremony for me to read - how you met and how you feel about each other and / or how the engagement occurred.  I can assist you with this too.

Reading (Optional)

Who will read and what will they read? Poem, short story, or quote, personal piece of writing, etc?

I have many suggestions if you need them.

The Monitum - by Law as a Celebrant I have to say this.

I, Susan Ellis, a Civil Celebrant, am duly authorized by the law to solemnise this, your marriage according to laws of Australia.

Before you, _______ and you, _____are joined together in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, your family and friends, I am bound, as you know, to remind you publicly of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter.

Marriage, according to the law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others and is voluntarily entered into for life.

Or The Giving Away here (Optional)

Do you want to involve your parents, guests / children?

The Asking  (Optional)

Will you take _________ to be your lawful wedded wife?
Will love and respect her, be honest with her and stand by her through whatever may come so you can genuinely share your life together?

Groom: I will

(Vice versa)

(Or words to this affect, you can let me know if you prefer another version.)

Vows

The vows are the basic legal structure of the marriage ceremony. The asking must always be followed by a definite statement of vows.

Your vows must start with;

I,_____, call upon these people here, to witness that I take you, _________, to be my wife. (And vice versa)

You can then add to this by each writing your own vows or I can give you some suggestions

(Don’t show each other your vows; let it be a surprise on the day!)

Ring Ceremony

You can write the words you wish to say or I can give you some suggestions.

Reading or two? (Optional)

By whom and what will be read?

Declaration of Marriage

Ladies and Gentleman, ____ and _____ have declared before all of us that they will live together in marriage. They have made special promises to each other. They have symbolized it by taking vows and by exchanging rings.

So therefore on your behalf and on the behalf of the community, I now declare them husband and wife.

‘You may kiss your bride,’ or words to this affect or you just kiss without me saying anything.

The Signing

The register and the marriage certificate are signed (3 documents)

What music would you like to be played during the signing?

Pronouncement

How do you wish to be addressed?
Mr. and Mrs. /or ______ and ____    or?

This concludes the ceremony, and all the proceedings for the celebrant.
